Candace Dressler and Fran Dennett are Master Gardeners and members of the Gloucester Horticultural Society.

Fran has a Masters in Biology and is a founding member of Master Gardeners
of Ottawa Carleton.  She has been gardening and starting plants from
seed in Ottawa for over 50 years.

Fran gardens in her city garden and influences the native plants that grow
around her lakeside cottage. Her latest project is a hillside meadow.

Candace is a retired IT worker and past-Director for OHA district 1.
She learned to garden with her grandparents in the prairies.  She has
been gardening for over 30 years and joined Master Gardeners in 2017.
Candace has an English inspired front bed and a woodland border in the back of her property.
She has been introducing more native plants to her garden; over 50
species so far and has seen the increase in the birds that visit and
reduced maintenance they require firsthand.  They both consulted on the
GHS’s native garden at Madonna Long Term Care.

Their co-presentation will answer the following questions:

  • What are native plants?

  • Why garden with native plants?

  • What native plants are right for my garden?

  • Where can I get native plants?
